How can I get started with therapy?
I'm glad you're here and have already taken the first step to reach out for the care you need. We can take the next step together by scheduling a free 15-minute phone conversation, which will give you a sense of what it would be like to work with me. From there, we’ll just take it one step at a time, together. I’ll be here to address any anxieties or fears that come up for you along the way. Click here to access my contact page, where you can choose to reach out to me by phone/text (212-729-3035), email (christine@christinemalossi.com), or by filling out my contact form.
Do you provide in-person or online sessions?
I offer both in-person and online sessions. If you choose to work with me in-person, we'll meet at Union Square Psychotherapy, conveniently located in the heart of Union Square. There are advantages and disadvantages to both in-person and virtual therapy, which I'd be happy to discuss with you if you're unsure which option would work best for you.
How long and frequent are sessions?
Sessions are generally 45-minutes long. During our first session, we will determine a regular weekly meeting time and will discuss how many sessions per week would be appropriate for you. Most people find that meeting 1-2 times per week feels like a good cadence. You can expect therapy to last anywhere from a few months to a few years, depending on the nature of your concerns and the amount of change you wish to make in your life.
Do you accept insurance?
I am not in-network with any insurance companies, but am an eligible out-of-network provider for all insurance companies. This means your insurance plan will reimburse you for your sessions with me if your plan includes out-of-network coverage. Insurance plans can cover up to 80% of out-of-network costs after your deductible is met, but each plan is different so it's best to call your insurance plan and verify your specific benefits. I'm happy to provide you with a super bill to submit to insurance for reimbursement. Click here for a helpful guide to using out-of-network benefits to pay for therapy.
Where did you work before going into private practice?
Before entering private practice, I worked as a clinician at Hunter College Counseling & Wellness Services, where I provided therapy for young adults dealing with life transitions, LGBTQIA and gender identity issues, anxiety, depression, body image, grief/loss, academic/career distress, and relationship issues. I also have more than 13 years of professional experience as a certified yoga and meditation teacher; and more than a decade as a hospice volunteer, where I support people undergoing the transition from life to death, as well as their caregivers and loved ones. These varied forms of experience have given me the opportunity to work with people across the lifespan, dealing with a wide spectrum of issues.
